Amana Book Review
Read. Reflect. Discuss. Grow. — Developing reading culture, critical thinking and meaningful intellectual discussion among young people.
Building a culture of reading and reflection
Amana Book Review is an intellectual development program that brings young people together around books, ideas and purposeful discussion. Each month, participants read a selected book, reflect on its core ideas and come together to discuss how those ideas apply to their lives and their world.
The program is designed not just to encourage reading, but to develop the habit of reading with intention — and the skill of engaging critically and confidently with complex ideas.
Purpose
To develop a consistent habit of reading, critical thinking, intellectual reflection and meaningful discussion that supports lifelong growth.
Development Model
Read → Reflect → Discuss → Apply
Every session follows this four-stage process to move from passive reading to active application of ideas.
The monthly cycle
Each month follows a structured four-week cycle that takes participants from selection to application.
Select
The month's book is announced and introduced. Context, author background and learning objectives are shared.
Read
Participants read the book independently, taking personal notes, marking key passages and preparing their thoughts.
Reflect
Participants prepare written or verbal reflections on what they read — insights, questions and personal applications.
Review
The group convenes for a guided review session — discussing ideas, challenging perspectives and exploring applications.
